As you know, Summer is the season of mangoes and India is the hub of production of different kinds of Mangoes. Mango people(Aam Aadmi) love mangoes. So, it is used in meals in different forms. There are different ways of eating raw mangoes. One of the ways to include Raw Mango in your meal is Pickle. Sweet Raw Mango Pickle is very healthy and its taste is mouth watering. Sweet Raw Mango Pickle goes well with all types of Indian Bread like Chapati/Paratha.

What I like more about this pickle is that my kids like it. It is sweet so they can love it just like Jam. Just roll roti with sweet pickle and eat it. Sweet families love sweet pickles.

  • 2-3 Raw Mangoes (कच्चा आंबा)
  • 2 teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds  (मेथीचे दाणे)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds (जिरे)
  • 1 teaspoon  Turmeric Powder (हळद)
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (मिरची पावडर)
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder (धणे पावडर)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (मीठ)
  • 1 and ½ cup grated Jaggery
  • 2 teaspoon edible oil
  • 1 cup Water

How To Make Sweet Raw Mango Pickle?

Note - this is a method for temporary sweet raw mango pickle.

Washed Mangoes and dried it with clothes.

Peeled Mangoes and slice Mangoes into small pieces.

Take a pan. Heat it. Add edible oil then add Cumin Seeds and stir it continuously for 30 seconds.

Then add Fenugreek seeds in the pan and heat it. Stir it continuously.

When Fenugreek seeds change their color, add Turmeric Powder, Coriander Powder and Red Chili Powder and stir for 10 seconds.

Now add sliced Mangoes into it and stir for 30 seconds so that all mango pieces will be covered with masala.

Put the lid on the pan for 2 minutes. Stir it and again cover with lid for 2 Minutes.Check if the Mangoes are slightly cooked.

Add 1 cup Water and cover the lid.

Check after 2-3 minutes if Mangoes are smooth enough then add Jaggery.

Cover the lid and stir after 2 minutes till all Jaggery is melted down.

Cooke for 5 Minutes.

Switch off the gas and let it cool down.

Store it in an air-tight jar.

Ready to eat.

Special Note

  • Proportion of Jaggery depends on Mangoes. If Mangoes are sour then increase the amount of Jaggery.
  • You can add more water if you want more juicy Pickle.
  • This is called Methamba(मेथांबा) in Maharashtra due to the whole Fenugreek Seeds used in it .

How to Serve Sweet Raw Mango Pickle?

  • Pickles are an unavoidable part of our daily meal. It can be eaten on a regular basis with any meal.
  • You can serve this Sweet Raw Mango Pickle with Roti/Chapati/Paratha. Just put it on the roti and roll the roti and eat it.
  • You can eat it with Dal-Rice.
  • It tastes best with Parathas/Thalipeeth. If you are a sweet lover then you will like it.
  • You can serve it with a daily meal which can be used as a taste enhancer due to its tangy flavour.
  • It can be a replacement of Sabji (vegetables/curry).
  • It is a solution for odd time hunger, Just eat with roti/Chapati.

How to preserve Sweet Raw Mango Pickle?

This is a temporary pickle as we add water in it so better to store in an air-tight jar and keep it in the refrigerator. This can be stored for 7-14 days in the refrigerator.

Consumption of anything in large quantities will affect your health. So Please avoid consumption of too many raw mangoes. It will affect on your body like Indigestion and irritation in the throat.

My experience with Sweet Raw Mango Pickle

Summer and Mango are undetachable. I couldn’t find friends and families in my circle who don't like mangoes. Whatever form they eat, they like it. My family is not optional and sweet raw mango pickle is one of the reasons. 

When my kids started eating roti since that time, it is part of their meal and still going on. Anyone who eats it like it. So overall it's a very happy and emotional experience because of kids.
