Mango lemon Chilli Mixed Pickle is a combination of Sourness of green mangoes mixed with spice of green chillies and tanginess of lemon. Then perfect Mixed Pickle is created.

There are different types of pickles that are part of our food culture. Varieties of pickles are included in our diet according to season and availability of its main ingredient. Likewise, carrot pickle is used in the Winter season when there is an abundant amount of carrots available. Same with green mangoes as well as Amla(Indian Gooseberry).

Mixed pickle is a blend of different vegetables or fruits mixed with some spices and can be stored for years. In the ancient era, people used to pickle vegetables or fruits when they were easily available to store it and use it later.

  • Raw Mangoes (कच्चा आंबा)
  • Lemons(लिंबु)

Wet Masala

  • Green Chilies (हिरवी मिरची / हरी मिरची)

Dry Masala

  • Fennel seeds (बडीशेप)
  • Splitted Mustard Seeds (मोहरी दाल)
  • Turmeric powder (हळद)
  • Coriander powder (धणे पावडर)
  • Red Chilli powder (मिरची पावडर)
  • Asafoetida (हिंग)
  • Salt (मीठ)
  • Jaggery(गुड़)
  • Edible oil

How to make mix pickle?

step 1

Take 2 medium sized raw mango and cut into small size

Take 4 lemons and cut into small sizes. Take out its seeds to avoid bitterness

Cut 10-15 green chillies and give it a little cut

Squeeze 2 lemons and keep juice aside

step 5

Take a bowl, add cut mangoes, cut lemons, cut green chillies and mix it properly.

Take a pan and heat it.

Pour ½ cup oil into the heated pan

When oil is heated, add ½ teaspoon Asafoetida, 4 teaspoon Cumin seeds. Stir it.

Add 1 cup Splitted Mustard Seeds, ½ cup Coriander Powder and Stir it

Add 1 teaspoon Fennel seeds, 3 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder, 2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder and stir it continuously. Let it cool down.

Take cut mangoes, lemons and green chillies in a bowl. Add ½ cup salt, masala( which we kept to cool down), lemon juice, ⅓ cup Jaggery and mix it properly.

Mix this pickle once in a day for a week then store it in a glass or ceramic jar.

Heat the 1 cup oil and let it cool down at room temperature.

Add this heated, cooled oil in this mixed pickle. Stir it properly.

Ready to serve.

Special Note

  • If you want more oil then you can increase the quantity of oil used in this pickle. I have used 2 teaspoon oil (only to roast the masala) as I used lemon juice and lemon pieces in this pickle which will leave water in the pickle.
  • You can increase the quantity of oil as per your taste.

Variations of Mango Lemon Chilli Mixed Pickle

  • You can change the proportion of mango, lemon and chilli as per your taste. If you want a more spicy pickle then you can increase the quantity of green chillies.
  • If you want less oil or no oil pickle then you can roast the masala without oil and increase the amount of lemon juice in the pickle.
  • Even you can add vinegar for no oil pickle

How to preserve Mango Lemon Chilli Mixed Pickle?

Store this pickle in a clean glass or ceramic jar. The shelf life of this pickle is 3-4 months.

How to Serve this pickle?

This pickle goes well with our regular meal. We can eat it daily with our meal.

We might have gone through the situation like… feeling odd time hunger and there is nothing but plain rice and plain dal at home. You don't have the mood to give tadka to dal but have a craving for spicy dal. Then what to do? My experience with Mango Lemon Chilli Mixed Pickle

My mother always made different types of pickles at home. She experimented with ingredients and combination. She made this mixed pickle once in a year and it was kept for 3-4 months at home. It was always a treat to our taste bud. I picked mango and lemon pieces from the pickle as I was not fond of chilli those days. The spiciness of chilli pickle absorbed by mango and lemon pieces which gave spice and sour taste.

Since my childhood I loved this pickle and tried it after marriage. It is also loved by everyone at home.
