Chutneys and Pickles

Chutneys and Pickles are part of Indian homes and history.  Indians eat chutneys and pickles to increase the taste of food. The name of chutneys and pickles are based on the main ingredient added in it.

What is chutney?

Chutney is a mixture of smashed main and sub ingredients. Main ingredients can be vegetables, fruits or  seeds. Sub ingredients can be herbs or spices. It can be dry or wet.

What is the color of chutney?

Chutneys are red is a completely false statement. It can have the color of the main ingredient so no fixed color. Tomato chutney and red chilli chutney are red. Raw mango chutney and pudina chutney are green. Groundnut or peanut chutney, sesame chutney and flax seeds chutney are brown meanwhile Coconut chutney is white.

What is the taste of chutney?

The taste of chutney is based on its ingredients. It can be spicy, sour, salty, sweet or even bitter.

What is the difference between chutneys and pickles?

Chutneys: Chutneys are smashed with main and sub ingredients. It can be preserved for one day to fifteen days. In chutneys fresh green main and sub ingredients can be added. You can taste the main ingredient but it has a mixed taste of sub ingredients. Chutneys do not have preservative ingredients. 

Pickles: Pickles are seasonable. For example  If the season is of raw mangoes then you can make raw mango pickles or if season of lemon then you can make lemon pickles. It can be preserved for 1 to 5 years depending on ingredients.  Main ingredient is not smashed in it. It is cut only in small pieces. It has preservative ingredients like oil, salt, sugar, vinegar etc.

Why make chutneys and pickles?

Chutneys are created to increase the taste of daily life meals. Most of the time its increased taste of bread, parathas, rise, breakfast/snack and roti sabji. It has a flavor of different ingredients. 

Pickles are preservative and tasty. For example you can enjoy , taste of raw mango in the form of pickles in every season.. 

I like both chutneys and pickles. Because both have different kinds of flavors and tastes.   

It increases the taste of our daily meal  as well as you can eat it with anything..

Indian chutneys and pickles have all natural ingredients, so they are healthy and nutritious.

If it's homemade so there is no chance of mixing unhealthy ingredients. Nowadays, you can buy it but you are unaware about the ingredients.

How many kinds of chutneys and pickles are possible?

Actually, we can't count the number of varieties of chutneys and pickles. Every home, city, district, state and country has a culture of different kinds of chutneys and pickles.

Around the World, it can be known with different names but can be used as a taste enhancer to our food.

The main difference is that Indian chutneys and pickles have 1000s types of flavors and  it has capability to give lip smacking experience in every bite.

What can I say about both chutneys and pickles ? Both are tasty, delicious and make a blast of flavors in your mouth.
